Born to wealth and intent on keeping it, Norman avoided the knightly vows, and thus the need to tithe men, food and horses to every war the king started, for years until the Bishop of Coventry made allusions to having him "Invited" into one of the orders of church knights, along with the surrder of property and title that came with it. The next day he was on bended knee before the king, taking his oaths of servitude to the crown as a knight.
Since then, Sir Moody has made sure to express his displeasure at his service on every peasant, village and castle between London and wherever the king sends him, developing a reputation for bitterness, ruthlessness and ambush over honour and the knightly virtues. He never misses a tournament - a chance to vent his frustration on his brothers in arms and maybe pocket some of the king's coin... Most of which was originally his anyway!
